Sherwin Williams shares their color forecast for the upcoming year during the season before and Redend Point by Sherwin Williams was included in that color forecast. When I first heard this was color of the year, I wondered why, but upon with a closer look, I’m not sure what I think anymore.
What Color Is Redend Point?
Sherwin Williams classifies Redend Point as part of the Red Color Family. While I see why that is, I would classify Redend Point as more of a Rosy Brown color. It might even look pink in some lights, and more brown in others.
Some may call it mauve, some others terracotta, I’ve even heard it called beige with really distinct pinky-purple undertones. Either way, jury is still out on this one when it comes to the color and our opinions on it. Let’s dive into it further.
Is Redend Point Warm Or Cool?
Redend Point by Sherwin Williams is WARM paint color and that may be a problem. Always consider what direction your light is facing in a room when choosing paint colors. In a south facing room, the light can be really warm and bright. This may be too much for a color like Redend Point.
Where as in a north facing room, Redend Point feels more balanced against the cooler light coming from the North. It can perform well in rooms that have less natural light with less windows to let in a lesser amount of light.
Redend Point By Sherwin Williams Undertones

A question I see a lot tied to this color is asking if Redent Point is pink? Is it pink? It definitely has some pink undertones along with gray and beige undertones peeking through as well.
Most people see pink or purple undertones and they run screaming the other way. The pink hue has a slightly more coral aspect to it which is why, in my opinion Redend Point might be classified as a terracotta color in some circles.
What Is The LRV?
Redend Point by Sherwin Williams has an LRV of 30. It is a medium toned brown color with rosy and orange colored undertones. This makes the color feel very warm and cozy on the walls. It may appear darker in a room with less natural light and I think this may be a great option for Redend Point.
Coordinating Colors For Redend Point
Being that Redend Point is a medium toned blushy brown shade, it pairs well with other earth tones. Oranges, reds, greens, lighter browns, beiges, deep browns and warm whites work beautifully with it.

What Is A Good Trim Color To Go With Redend Point?
Redend Point is a tricky color with its warmth and strange hues for undertones. You have to be careful when pairing it with the wrong white shade. A lot of creamy whites have yellowy undertones that would directly clash with this color. Pure White is part of the color palette above and would work well.

Another option for the trim in a room with Redend Point on the wall would be to do a design choice called Color Drenching. This is a concept where you paint the walls, doors, trim, ceiling, and all of the walls in the same color. I think Redend Point is an excellent choice for this trend.
I have written a post on this very concept of painting the ceilings and walls the same color if you want to dig into it more.

Again, this is a tricky color, so it is safe to say I wouldn’t go crazy with this color. It will look good in smaller, darker spaces, rooms with North or East FACING light, Bathrooms, Living Rooms, Accent Walls, on a fireplace, and Bedrooms.

NO! THAT IS A HARD NO! I would not recommend using Redend Point on kitchen cabinets or any cabinets. The color is too tricky to match to all of the different finishes like hardware, countertops, backsplash, flooring, etc. You’ll have a devil of a time trying to coordinate it all.

Final Thoughts
My final thoughts and my personal opinion on Redend Paint is that is is a tricky color, but a color I am still excited about! It may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it has all the qualities I look for in a paint color: a muted color presence, warmth, and a unique and beautiful hue.
I don’t think it was Color of The Year worthy. It is really only good for one kind of surface, on walls, and it should have more versatility than that to earn the moniker. However, it is a pretty color. I don’t know that I’ll ever use it in my house as a paint color, but an accent color or clothing item–MAYBE!
Until Next Time!
